The working population in India is estimated to be at 40 crore out of the total population is 115 crore. The number of workers is growing at 1.28 crore per year. The biggest challenge is the skill gap. Over one crore workers per year, who enter labour force are unskilled. Less than 10% have received any training at all as compared 96% in Korea, 75% in Germany, 80% in Japan and 68% in United Kingdom.
One of the major Vocational Training Institutional Infrastructure in India is Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). In total approximately 5500 including Govt. and private ITIs train about 7.5 lac students in about 110 trades. The capacity is very low as compared to the demand. Read more..
